Furthering the message of her . . . powerful and persuasive TedEx Talk, “Olympic Level Compassion,” that led to her selection as one of “The 20 Badass Veg Women Who Are Making History” by ChooseVeg, Bausch launched her non-profit animal protection organization, Compassion Champs, in March of 2017. Never one to shy away from facing staggering odds – just like she did in the 2012 London Games while riding for Team USA, whose unlikely and triumphant story is chronicled in the Netflix documentary “Personal Gold” – her outfit’s latest initiative is the disruption of the dairy milk industry through an Olympic athlete-driven social campaign called Switch 4 Good. The inaugural Switch 4 Good commercial aired on NBC during the 2018 Olympic Winter Games closing ceremonies and also on ABC during the Academy Award’s broadcast. View the commercial at www.Switch4Good.org.
A former world record holder, eight-time U.S. National Champion on the road and track, and a cycling color commentator on television, Bausch was compelled to adopt a compassionate plant-based lifestyle after seeing an exposé about the routine cruelty of factory farming. She trained for and competed in the Olympics on a plant-based diet. Now retired from professional cycling and armed with a degree in Plant Based Nutrition from eCornell University, she speaks passionately around the world as the voice of farm animals, spreading her message about the numerous benefits – humane, nutritional and environmental – of plant-based eating as a lifestyle choice for athletes and non-athletes alike.

Vegspiration Tent – 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Gene Baur has been hailed as “the conscience of the food movement” by Time magazine. Since the mid-1980s, he has traveled extensively, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of industrialized . . . factory farming and our system of cheap food production.
A pioneer in the field of undercover investigations, Gene has visited hundreds of farms, stockyards, and slaughterhouses, documenting the deplorable conditions that exist. His pictures and videos exposing factory farming cruelties have aired nationally and internationally, educating millions about the plight of modern farm animals.
Gene has also testified in courts and before local, state, and federal legislative bodies, advocating for better conditions for farm animals. His most important achievements include winning the first-ever cruelty conviction at a U.S. stockyard and introducing the first U.S. laws to prohibit cruel farming confinement methods in Florida, Arizona, and California. His efforts have been covered by top news organizations, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, andThe Wall Street Journal. Gene has published two bestsellers, Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food (Scribner, 2008) and Living the Farm Sanctuary Life (Rodale, 2015), which he co-authored with Forks Over Knives author Gene Stone. Through his writing and his international speaking engagements, Gene provides simple actionable solutions coupled with a compassion-first approach to help us be the change we wish to see in treatment toward animals and in our food system.
Gene began his activist career selling veggie hotdogs out of a VW van at Grateful Dead concerts to fund farm animal rescues. Today, he serves as president of Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, with shelters in New York and California. Providing rescue, refuge, and adoption for hundreds of farm animals each year, Farm Sanctuary shelters enable visitors to connect with farm animals as emotional, intelligent individuals. Gene believes these animals stand as ambassadors for the billions of factory farm animals who have no voice, and he has dedicated his career to advocating on their behalf.
Gene holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from California State University, Northridge, and a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Cornell University. In 2015, Gene was granted an Associate appointment in Health, Behavior, and Society at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In this prestigious position, Gene is focused on implementing courses related to evidence-based work on diet and farming as it aligns to Farm Sanctuary’s goals of shedding light on factory farming’s threat to public health, the environment and animal welfare.

Renee King-Sonnen – Rowdy Girl Sanctuary
Renee, a native Houstonian, is the Executive Director and Founder of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary in Angleton, Texas.  She remarried her husband Tommy Sonnen, a . . . multi-generational cattle rancher in 2009 and moved to the ranch. She fell in love with farm animals, having no idea her life was about to transform. After witnessing time and again the baby calves going to the sale barn she became extremely depressed. In October 2014, she went vegan as a result and began researching factory farming and the compassionate alternative, farm sanctuaries. She desperately consulted with leaders in the vegan movement, determined to do whatever she could to create sanctuary out of what was once a beef cattle operation in the heart of cattle country. As a result, the Ranchers Advocacy Program was developed as a way to transform farms and ranches into viable, compassionate, and productive farm enterprises without animal cruelty.[frmmodal type=”view” id=3900 label=”…MORE INFO!” entry-id=4819

Athlete Panel

http://www.greatscottpr.com

Vegspiration Tent – 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Plant based for 29 years, Rick Scott is a hockey player and former bike racer based in Los Angeles who trains and competes daily – on and off the ice. He is a 54-year-old vegan athlete . . . (#veganhockeyplayer) who trains and competes with elite players more than 30 years younger, an average of six inches taller and 60-100 pounds heavier than him. Fitness is his super power. The athletes he trains with and competes against struggle to keep up with the vegan powerhouse. Whether on the ice, bike or in the gym, his training partners have always been elites, pros and Olympians because his energy, enthusiasm, heart and hustle enable him to push them to the limit. His passionate pursuit of greatness is plant powered and age does not define him.

“Rarely can I be the most-skilled player on the ice, but I can be the fittest. I outlast, outwork and out hustle my competition,” said Scott, who relies on his plant-based diet to keep him flying and recovering fast as well as to try to avoid the heart disease and cancers that run in his family.

Professionally, Scott is a creative music, sports and entertainment public relations executive who began representing vegan/animal nonprofit organizations a couple years ago. “I live and work my passions 24/7 thus it’s important that my public relations practice be in alignment with my core values.” A captivating storyteller as a writer, he pens an informative monthly column for the Switch4Good website debunking myths and confronting issues common to vegan athletes.

After that I started learning a ton about plant-based nutrition when I realized that there are no cooking shows about vegan food that I could relate to. That’s what inspired Trying Vegan with Mario. It’s a cooking show where I’m on a mission to learn how to cook from the most incredible plant-based experts. The viewers learn about vegan cooking and benefit through my experience. It’s about good food and taking steps for everyone.[frmmodal type=”view” id=3900 label=”…MORE INFO!” entry-id=4652
