2018 Speaker Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary
Time Magazine has called Gene Baur “The Conscious of the Food Movement.” We are excited to announce Gene as one of many speakers at VegFest Los Angeles 2018. After over 25 years of traveling to different types of farms, stockyards, and slaughterhouses; he captured video and photographic evidence of abusive and unacceptable conditions and practices which have been seen nationally and globally.
Undercover investigations are never easy. Despite the fact that a successful day for an undercover investigator is capturing awful, abusive images the risk is extremely high because if things go wrong, it’s your safety in question.
But investigations is not Gene’s only animal rights experience. His activism started with a Volkswagen van and veggie-dogs outside Grateful Dead concerts. He sold meat-free hot-dogs and put the money towards funding various farm animal rescues.
Now Gene is the president of Farm Sanctuary, a farm animal protection organization with shelters in New York and California. These locations rescue, shelter and aid adoptions for animals who have been rescued from animal agriculture. Residents include pigs, cows, horses, goats, sheep, chickens and turkeys. They even live with a llama named Yoda. Visit farmsanctuary.org to see pictures, find a location for a tour and consider making a donation. You can also volunteer your time to work with these animals, host tours and take care of animal’s needs.
