ALMOND MILK

You may recognize Califia Farms by the iconic shape of their bottles. What you may not know is that they started out as a juice company and later shifted focus to plant-based milks. Dairy, among other animal products, account for one fourth of the global water footprint. Califia Farms provides environmentally friendly, plant based alternatives for many of the ways humans have come to put dairy into our diets.

QUEEN CALIFIA

The name Califia comes from the Spanish legend of Queen Califia, who once ruled a mythical, bountiful island named California. This legend is also the inspiration for the name of the very real state of California.

California is a bountiful state, and Califia Farms knows that it’s important to be as respectful as possible while growing, harvesting, and processing their products, which leads us to sustainability.

SUSTAINABILITY

Califia Farms is always looking for new ways to improve their packaging, and processing to have less of an impact on the planet.

Sustainability efforts include their relationships with farmers of almonds, coffee beans, and other raw ingredients. Califia Farms 2018 resolution is to have all coffee sourced directly from farmers and partners in two of the three major coffee growing regions, South America, and Africa.

By 2020, Califia Farms aims to be using 100% renewable power and zero waste. As their first steps at achieving this, they will be installing massive solar panels this year. They are also participating in a year long energy efficiency study to help accelerate their progress to renewable power and zero waste certification.

All of the water used during processing their products is saved, and used to irrigate local crops. On top of that, they have reduced the amount of water used during processing by 16 percent.

They look out for the bees too, You may not realize this, but without bees pollinating out trees and food producing plants, the plants wouldn’t exist. Our almond farmers know how important this relationship with nature is and they cherish it..

THE PLANT BASED FOOD ASSOCIATION

Califia Farms founded the Plant Based Food Association. They describe it as as Trade organization formed to ensure a fair and competitive marketplace for businesses selling exclusively plant based foods.
